There are so many people looking for their purpose and passion in life. I searched for my creative voice in so many places. I purchased many online courses and hired life coaches to help me learn more about who I was and how to make a difference in the world? But unfortunately, I found that how to find your purpose and passion in life is not something you can order on demand!
I am not a fan of online courses and life coaching because they didn’t work for me. This doesn’t mean that they are not beneficial. I just think that I was not ready to follow their process because I felt stuck at a deeper level! I was expecting they would provide me with all the answers and my life purpose would unveil itself easily.
In speaking from my own experience about how to find your purpose and passion in life I can say this; “You certainly will not find the answers all by yourself. You usually don’t find answers while following the insights of a coach or by taking a course. You probably will find these precious answers in your most quiet time. In some instances, you’ll be praying and asking God to help you as you realize you cannot do this alone. Hands lifted up high you will ask “Lord Help Me To Flourish”!
My journey of finding my purpose and passion in life started almost 10 years ago (probably a lot earlier) and you guessed it; I tried to go at it alone. The catalyst of my quest was when I wanted to start a new business. While looking for ways to promote my business, I discovered people were using internet marketing and social media sites to find clients. I don’t remember the exact words I put in the Google search but what popped up was a like a door-like-portal that transported me into the world of entrepreneurs, stay-at-home moms, speakers, authors, artists…all claiming to be living a dream life from the comfort of their home!
I was in Awe of how these people were using the internet for establishing themselves as leaders in their fields. They all had beautiful shiny websites and were attracting tens of thousands of people into their online world, inviting them to connect, subscribe, follow and buy from them. They were using videos, enthusiastically inviting people to join, their list, channels, and free courses. It was all so overwhelming, I didn’t understand half of the stuff they were talking about and yet, I desperately wanted to know more!
Why was I so attracted to these people? Why did I suddenly start spending hours on my computer, trying to find out how I could become like them? It seems surreal now but I thought that if I could succeed in building an online presence like these people, I would certainly discover my own passion and purpose! You see, I was going at it the wrong way!
I spent so much time trying to become like them that I slowly got further away from who I really was…the woman God so carefully created me to be…
If you ask any very successful online leaders to tell you how to find your purpose and passion in life, they will probably all start the same way; “finding your passion and having success in life doesn’t happen overnight…”
You see, most people, including me, are making the mistake of looking at where these people are NOW…and we don’t bother thinking about the obstacles and challenges they had to traverse. We focus on where they are “NOW” and somehow, we fall into the trap of instant gratification…we want what they have…NOW! We assume that they got their beautiful shiny websites and success effortlessly… but what we must remember is that, in order to become successful, it takes perseverance, courage, tenacity, motivation and a whole lot of FAITH.
We are on never-ending and forever evolving journey and what we must do is find out what is pleasing to the Lord and let Him be the judge if you are on target….and we get there by listening to God’s whispers!
The whispers I heard all these years finally made sense when I know and trusted it was God speaking to me…
If you have a hard time hearing God’s voice, don’t quit and never stop searching…no matter how tough things get, God is at your side!
One more thing…You will most certainly save time, pain, confusion and grief if you turn to God as your #1 leader. He can make you wise in life and in business…trust in Him for your most important decisions.
Jesus cautions us, Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” Matthew 10:16
